April/May Keyword Challenge

This is our last Monthly Keyword Challenge until it resumes again in September! If you are in the mood for some excellent summer themed haiku, please check out Haiku Girl Summer, a publication our editor Samantha Pardo Irigoyen will be acting as guest editor for during one week in August.

Kigo, or seasonal words, are a literary element commonly used in haiku, that allow the poet to instantly transport their reader to a time and place.

For April/May we challenged our poets to use the following kigo in their pieces: breeze, mud, and lilac. Below are the best submissions of both haiku and “One Breath” poetry.
