deeper into the blue
“Deeper into the blue—” words that seem so simple, yet can cause a stir in every reader’s mind. This piece was included in our Editor Features because of the emotions that it caused in both of our editors.
Samantha, comes from a long line of artists— and an artist’s focus is something she knows all too well. Upon reading this piece, she swirled to her youth, back to her childhood home, next to her father; his hands stained with the rich colours of his palette and the smell of linseed wafting gently around the studio. He’s there, holding his breath, trying not to lean on the panel, as he puts on the final touch of blue. One swish, and it’s done. He can breathe again.
For Kevin, it brought about visions of his youth in Germany. Laying in a grassy field, knee scraped, staring up at the sky. The worries of childhood fading in the deep grass. Kevin traced the clouds. Then the blues set in. The longer he looked on, the deeper he went. “Deeper into the blue.” For a moment, time stood still. The cacophony of life, just a simple blue, and only then could he breathe.
